Ab Initio

The Ab Initio development suite provides an easy way to perform ETL development. However, for mid to large companies, the Ab Initio Suite of tools including Co-Operating System, the Graphical Development Environment (GDE), the Enterprise Meta Environment (EME) as well as other products can be very expensive not only in license costs but also from a maintenance perspective.

CMI’s Ab Initio Administration team manages one of the most complex Ab Initio implementations in the world. Our teams are extremely lean and efficient. Services provided by our highly experienced technical staff include (but are not limited to):

Ab Initio Software Administration

• Highly automated and streamlined process for managing high volume of Graphical Development Environment (GDE) license keys using Key Server software and custom built automation.
• Installation, configuration and license key management of Co-Operating system, Enterprise Meta Environment (EME), Work Load Manager (WLM), Resource Monitor and other Ab Initio products on all platforms,
• Primary point of contact for all Ab Initio environment/configuration related issues.
• Design, setup and maintain new Ab Initio environments for development, test and production on UNIX and Windows Servers including setting up the sandbox space, configuring and building out the data directory partitions (Serial/MFS) and the corresponding EME regions.

Enterprise Meta Environment Administration

The CMI team manages one of the most complex EME implementations with several 1000’s of EME projects in each EME and 10’s of thousands of jobs running in production. Services include:

• Administer the Enterprise Meta Environment (EME) which includes:
  • Set user groups and security with access control
  • Use internal namespace for the EME web portal
  • Automated EME backups and health checks.
  • Perform repository purge to reduce disk growth
  • Perform EME upgrades and related EME testing.
  • Provide technical support to Developers/Testers/Production support teams.

• Develop and maintain (in UNIX Korn Shell):
  • Project creation scripts.
  • EME Project Migration scripts.
  • EME Check-out Scripts.
  • Data directory build out scripts.
  • Automation scripts to perform EME branching and merging.

• Ab Initio MFS (Multi-file system) expansion from 8-way to 16-way using existing file systems without adding additional disk in most cases.
• Windows Proxy Server setup to allow SQL server access from Linux servers running Ab Initio jobs.
• Automated production server disk space management by proactively monitoring the different file partitions for files not conforming to standards and reporting directly to the offenders by automated emails.
